The Daily Dose Project: Day 31

Image
The Song: If I Had A Boat - James Vincent McMorrow The Quote: "Keep close to Nature's heart... and break clear away, once in awhile, and climb a mountain or spend a week in the woods. Wash your spirit clean." - John Muir The Photo: Campsite View

The Daily Dose Project: Day 30

Image
The Song: Separator - Radiohead The Quote: "I am now the most miserable man living. If what I feel were equally distributed to the whole human family, there would not be one cheerful face on the earth. Whether I shall ever be better I can not tell; I awfully forebode I shall not. To remain as I am is impossible; I must die or be better, it appears to me." - Abraham Lincoln The Photo: Night Lily

The Daily Dose Project: Day 29

Image
The Song: Come Around - Tim & Jean The Quote: "I like too many things and get all confused and hung-up running from one falling star to another till i drop. This is the night, what it does to you. I had nothing to offer anybody except my own confusion." from On The Road by Jack Kerouac The Photo: New Tent

The Daily Dose Project: Day 28

Image
The Song: Rad Racer - Work Drugs The Quote: “Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, And sorry I could not travel both And be one traveler, long I stood And looked down one as far as I could To where it bent in the undergrowth; Then took the other, as just as fair, And having perhaps the better claim Because it was grassy and wanted wear, Though as for that the passing there Had worn them really about the same, And both that morning equally lay In leaves no step had trodden black. Oh, I marked the first for another day! Yet knowing how way leads on to way I doubted if I should ever come back. I shall be telling this with a sigh Somewhere ages and ages hence: Two roads diverged in a wood, and I, I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference. ” The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost The Photo: SoCal

The Daily Dose Project: Day 27

Image
The Song: Live Those Days Tonight - Friendly Fires The Quote: "My candle burns at both ends; It will not last the night; But ah, my foes, and oh, my friends— It gives a lovely light!" First Fig by Edna St. Vincent Millay The Photo: LACMA

The Daily Dose Project: Day 25

Image
The Song: I'm Not Afraid To Wait For You - Two Bicycles The Quote: "Love is like a friendship caught on fire. In the beginning a flame, very pretty, often hot and fierce, but still only light and flickering. As love grows older, our hearts mature and our love becomes as coals, deep-burning and unquenchable." - Bruce Lee The Photo: Andrew

The Daily Dose Project: Day 24

Image
The Song: Model Son - The Heavenly States The Quote: "Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through experience of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, ambition inspired, and success achieved." - Hellen Keller The Photo: Along Came A Spider

The Daily Dose Project: Day 23

Image
The Song: Older Together - Black Light Dinner Party The Quote: "I see them standing at the formal gates of their colleges, I see my father strolling out under the ochre sandstone arch, the red tiles glinting like bent plates of blood behind his head, I see my mother with a few light books at her hip standing at the pillar made of tiny bricks with the wrought-iron gate still open behind her, its sword-tips black in the May air, they are about to graduate, they are about to get married, they are kids, they are dumb, all they know is they are innocent, they would never hurt anybody. I want to go up to them and say Stop, don't do it--she's the wrong woman, he's the wrong man, you are going to do things you cannot imagine you would ever do, you are going to do bad things to children, you are going to suffer in ways you never heard of, you are going to want to die. I want to go up to them there in the late May sunlight and say it, her hungry pretty blank face turning to me,...

The Daily Dose Project: Day 22

Image
The Song: Baby's Breath - Bill Callahan The Quote: "I shall not sing a May song. A May song should be gay. I'll wait until November And sing a song of gray. I'll wait until November That is the time for me. I'll go out in the frosty dark And sing most terribly. And all the little people Will stare at me and say, "That is the Crazy Woman Who would not sing in May" The Crazy Woman by Gwendolyn Brooks The Photo: Inside Out Fox

The Daily Dose Project: Day 21

Image
The Song: Anna Sun - Walk The Moon The Quote: "In high school, I discovered my love for music. Music was my first love. Girls would sometimes distract me, but ultimately, music would always win. Hearing a new album by my favourite band was way more exciting than making out. I learned how to play drums in 3rd grade, and played them constantly, I was even able to convinced my parents to spend their money that they were saving up for my future college fund, and spend it on buying me a drum set. I was blessed to have such supportive parents." - Chad Pearson (P Is For Panda owner, The Militia Group founder) The Photo: The Bubble Pool

The Daily Dose Project: Day 20

Image
The Song: Down In The Valley - The Head and The Heart The Quote: "I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived." from Walden by Henry David Thoreau The Photo: Abandoned Barn

The Daily Dose Project: Day 19

Image
The Song: Cheerleader - We Are Losers The Quote: "The car's on fire and there's no driver at the wheel, and the sewers are all muddied with a thousand lonely suicide, and a dark wind blows. The government is corrupt, and we're on so many drugs with the radio on and the curtains drawn. We're trapped in the belly of this horrible machine, and the machine is bleeding to death. The sun has fallen down, and the billboards are all leering, and the flags are all dead at the top of their poles. It went like this: the buildings tumbled in on themselves. Mothers clutching babies picked through the rubble, and pulled out their hair. The skyline was beautiful on fire all twisted metal stretching upwards. Everything washed in a thin orange haze. I said, "kiss me, you're beautiful - these are truly the last days." You grabbed my hand and we fell into it like a daydream or a fever. We woke up one morning and fell a little further down - for sure it's the valley...

The Song: Movement - Dam Mantle The Quote: "If I didn't have my camera to remind me constantly, I am here to do this, I would eventually have slipped away, I think. I would have forgotten my reason to exist." - Annie Leibovitz The Photo: Geese Duo

The Daily Dose Project: Day 17

Image
The Song: Faces - Casa Del Mirto The Quote: "Are you in earnest? Seize this very minute! Boldness has genius, power, and magic in it. Only engage, and then the mind grows heated. Begin, and then the work will be completed." - Jean Anouilh The Photo: Good Weather Soon

Image
The Song: Blue Truth - Jamie Woon The Quote: "Great spirits have always encountered violent opposition from mediocre minds." - Albert Einstein The Photo: Back Lot At Sunset

The Daily Dose Project: Day 15

Image
The Song: Manners - Icona Pop The Quote: "The conscious mind hungers for success and money and all that sort of stuff, but the unconscious mind really hungers for the moments when we loose awareness of ourselves, and we're lost in a task, or in nature, the love of god, or some challenge... or with another person. [...] Love, though a lot of us middle age guys don't like to talk about it, is really at the center of everything." - David Brooks The Photo: Miniature Cat/Bird Nest

The Daily Dose Project: Day 13

Image
The Song: TAOS - Menomena The Quote: "a great white light dawns across the continent as we fawn over our failed traditions, often kill to preserve them or sometimes kill just to kill. it doesn't seem to matter: the answers dangle just out of reach, out of hand, out of mind. the leaders of the past were insufficient, the leaders of the present are unprepared. we curl up tightly in our beds at night and wait. it is a waiting without hope, more like a prayer for unmerited grace. it all looks more and more like the same old movie. the actors are different but the plot's the same: senseless. we should have known, watching our fathers. we should have knwon, watching our mothers. they did not know, they too were not prepared to teach. we were too naive to ignore their counsel and now we have embraced their ignorance as our own. we are them, multiplied. we are their unpaid debts. we are bankrupt in money and in spirit there are few exceptions, of course, but these teeter on the e...

Image
The Song: Clementine - Sarah Jaffe The Quote: "My kitchen is a mystical place, a kind of temple for me. It is a place where the surfaces seem to have significance, where the sounds and odors carry meaning that transfers from the past and bridges to the future." from Pearl's Kitchen: An Extraordinary Cookbook by Pearl Bailey The Photo: Window Garden

The Song: Helplessness Blues - Fleet Foxes The Quote: “Electric communication will never be a substitute for the face of someone who with their soul encourages another person to be brave and true." - Charles Dickens The Photo: Boyfriend's Backyard

The Daily Dose Project: Day 10

Image
The Song: Wilhelms Scream - James Blake The Quote: "People love girls in bands, but they want to write lewd shit about them on Brooklyn Vegan. It is weird that the indie rock world is supposed to be politically progressive, but in terms of gender politics, it's sort of like 'Mad Men'." - Kyle Forester (Crystal Stilts member on former bandmate Frankie Rose) The Photo: On The Way To Baltimore, In Winter

The Daily Dose Project: Day 9

Image

The Daily Dose Project: Day 6

Image
The Song: Swim Club - The Cave Singers The Quote: "Consider the possibility that your every thought, sensation, and emotion has its own perfect reason for being just exactly as it is/they are, right now. Image
The Song: Pumped Up Kicks by Foster The People The Quote: “The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes but in having new eyes.” - Marcel Proust The Photo: Lettuce

The Daily Dose Project: Day 4

Image
The Song: Stamp by The Rural Alberta Advantage The Quote: “Beginning my studies the first step pleas'd me so much, The mere fact consciousness, these forms, the power of motion, The least insect or animal, the senses, eyesight, love, The first step I say awed me and pleas'd me so much, I have hardly gone and hardly wish'd to go any farther, But stop and loiter all the time to sing it in ecstatic songs.” Beginning My Studies by Walt Whitman The Photo: Kansas Windfarm

The Daily Dose Project: Day 3

Image
The Song: May I Walk With You by Star Slinger The Quote: “A dense, artistic kind of imperfection stimulates your consciousness, keeps you alert. If I listen to some utterly perfect performance of an utterly perfect piece while I'm driving, I might want to close my eyes and die right then and there. But listening to the D major, I can feel the limits of what humans are capable of - that a certain type of perfection can only be realized through a limitless accumulation of the imperfect. And personally I find that encouraging.” from Kafka On The Shore by Haruki Murakami The Photo: Gateway Arch

The Song: Hauntin' Me by Keep Shelly In Athens The Quote: “Without promotion something terrible happens... nothing!” - P. T. Barnum The Photo: 3rd Street, Nashville, Tennessee

The Daily Dose Project: Day 1

To get back in the swing of regular updating on this fanatically dedicated, if only mediocrely composed, interweb publication I have devised a project, hopefully the proportions of which will challenge and inspire. Everyday for the month of March I will post a song by a new musician, a quote, and an original photo. Let the games begin! The Song: Home To Me by Madeline Adams The Quote: "It is impossible to enjoy idling thoroughly unless one has plenty of work to do. There is no fun in doing nothing when you have nothing to do. Wasting time is merely an occupation then, and a most exhausting one. Idleness, like kisses, to be sweet must be stolen." from Idle Thoughts of an Idle Fellow: On Being Idle by Jerome K. Jerome The Photo: Cumberland Gap At Sunset
