Best New Music of 2016

Image
2016! What a year. Many have completely written the past 12 months off, and 2016 seems destined to go down in history as the most hated year of the 21st century. However, trials and tribulations tend to inspire great art, and I for one would much rather sing into the void at the top of my lungs and dance in the dark. Though I also worried about the state of humanity this past year, I also spent a lot of time discovering amazing new tunes and sharing them with my friends on my weekly radio show, Sound Sounds . Thank you all dear listeners for streaming me on KXSC, my Facebook live sessions, and Mixcloud. Your joy at vibing off my vibes keeps me going! It took well over a month for me to whittle down the thousands of tracks I listened to this past year, and the hundreds upon hundreds that made it into my radio show, to a definitive list. I loved so many songs, and removing any from selection sometime felt like letting go of a piece of myself. So, it with much careful thought and pride

2016 may have been a rough year in a lot of ways, but sometimes a little strife is good for art, because it was a great year for new music. It was very hard to try and whittle down the hundreds upon hundreds of songs that I played on my show this past year down to the top 100, and I was only able to let go of the last few by putting them on this runner's up playlist. Here's a hand full of songs that almost made my top 100, but are still totes bae. Looking for some morning inspiration? Tune in to Sound Sounds with Sachi Subterranean and discover new music from a range of genres from house to folk, post-punk to ambient, and everything in between. I really think you'd have to do some serious digging to find another playlist this blends this much electronica with country. I smooth things out with some subtle ambient overtones, and you can treat your ears as well as your taste buds this holiday season with some sugary sweet indie pop tunes. Hope this episode brings you all kinds of visions of sugar plums dancing through your head, dear listener! Looking for some morning inspiration? Unfortunately I was way too sick to do my show this week. I sound like a 60 year-old smoker, your "fun" aunt, who sneaks you sips of peppermint Schnapps in middle school and makes the family watch her reenactment of Cabaret when she gets tipsy on holidays, like Easter. I didn't have an aunt like this growing up, but it's "fun" to imagine. Clearly all the cold medicine has made me delirious. This is why we can't have nice things... I mean... this is why I couldn't do my show this week. Anywho, I've got the next best thing for you, the Spotify playlist. Enjoy without any of my raspy inane rambling. Kicking things off with a dance party this week! Cut a rug, kids! Some spoonfuls of R&B and a crossover track from Amos Lee then help us transition into some soulful folk before a lil' post punk night cap. It's a myriad of motions in oceans from me to you, dear listener xoxo Looking for some morning inspiration?
